According to iPhone Dev Team Member MuscleNerd, a new exploit called NCK is discovered to unlock the iPhone 4 basebands permanently. You can use this exploit to bruteforce cracking the unique key NCK on iPhone 4. Currently, the performance in early stage so it can take awhile to fully baked.

The following FAQ will help most of the question regarding permanent unlock iPhone 4 exploit.

Since there are a lot of confusion out there, and I always repeat myself (which I don't really like), I composed this little writing questions that constantly asked (my personal FAQ). Please not that this is a general statement. Try not to argue with me on specific details.

1. what happened?! I thought the unlock for basebands 02.10.01 & 03.10.01 would be released within the next 2 weeks?

As the Dev-Team (MuscleNerd know) have worked on the unlock for quite awhile now. They made great progress on the unlock, but they discovered that they are "one specific SIM card" instead of the base band itself (accidentally) unlocked. Which means that the unlock only would an unlock that you could use MuscleNerd of T-Mobile SIM. So, useless. If the unlock would unlock the baseband instead of "SIM", would likely be within 2 weeks (reasonable period that they had hoped). But things turned out to be different. In fact these<2 weeks="" predictions="" were="" a="" lack="" of="">

2. What is this NCK-key cracking? How does it work?

The NCK-key is the key that is generated by Apple if you would you iPhone will officially open, and I mean, with officially through your carrier. This "nck-unlock" method is known about a few years now, actually since geohot started working on unlocking the iPhone 2 G, he developed a program that "" these 15 digits long important and unique for each device can crack. Geohots NCKBF program could do about 100,000 keys per second that would produce a hit in many years, or a search in 317 years completed. To come to a point where this actually feasible we'd have many orders of magnitude of improvement. Even if you have a PS3 (we would still like to use this??) or special hardware (within reach of 1000 US $) only gets you an improvement of 20-100 times ... which is not much help.

Now, fortunately, with the exploits they have now, they won't unlock your baseband, but they * can * more information to capture the baseband to speed up this process crack. Since the NORID and CHIPID (unique for each device) are known, would you apparently only have to check out 40 more bits (5 digits). A 40-bit key is theoretically crackable on "home hardware" within a week (24/7). The disadvantage of this approach is that you'll have to keep your computer turned on, and your iPhone must be connected. And that is why they never tried it before. Please note that this method completely theoretical and is not tried all the way up to this time.

3. now what? Should I sell my locked iPhone 4?

I would wait for more information about these "NCK-unlock". At this moment it is pretty vague what timeframe we're talking about. If the Dev-Team, this method can draw from this, it would be very promising for those waiting for an unlock. If this method proves to be not enforceable, I would consider selling your iPhone 4 and save for a factory unlocked iPhone 5.

4. do you think there goes every be an unlock?

Of course. But that is unlikely any time soon (with soon<1>

5. If the NCK method fails, how long do you think it will last for the Dev Team to unlock the iPhone 4?

No ETA at all. Would a couple of weeks, but it can easily be a few months too.
