Sprint, Kyocera Set Date double-screen Echo release - eWeek

Sprint and Kyocera provide the Kyocera Echo double-screen smartphone available on 17 April, at a price of $199 with a two year contract. In a submission to the battery in the interest of consumers before the release, Sprint also takes bookings for the device online, from March 26.

On 7 February, Sprint held a prestige event in New York City to debut the ECHO, an Android smartphone with two 3.5 inch WVGA-screen touch connected by a hinge. According to the hinge?s angle, these screens perform several tasks: drag-on the other, and the echo looks and feels like a smartphone single screen a little thicker. Screens can also be dragged flat and side by side?to create a 4.7-inch display screen movies, or other media?or inclined far from each other at an angle, multitasking or type with a virtual keyboard.

The two screens can run two applications ?simultaneously and independently, ?, CEO of Sprint Dan Hesse told the audience in the event of the city of New York. For users of the company, the smartphone supports Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, in addition to POP and IMAP e-mail accounts.

In the heart Echo?s is an Android 2.2 operating system powered by a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. In conversation with eWEEK on February 8, executives from Sprint and Kyocera seemed to be separating the echo of other size devices more walk the line between tablets and smartphones, such as the 5-inch Dell Streak.

The mode of ?tablet of Echo?s emulates some features of a tablet, but not a tablet, ?, it?s said David Owens, Sprint?s vice President of the acquisition of consumers. ?It?s a phone first. ?

These frameworks have shown the wide echo across applications, films and e-mail. Unlike good number of smartphones and tablets on the market, face front and rear cameras Echo doesn?t characteristic for the videoconference, keeping to a 5-megapixel rear camera.

Balancing the benefits of the dual screens, is, however, claims of Echo?s on the life of the battery, something that Kyocera hopes to resolve by the device with two batteries and a charger to juice simultaneously phone and a second battery of shipment.

Sprint and Kyocera want course that Echo?s unique form factor can be distinguished in an increasingly crowded market. Even when space and the battles of iPhone Apple?s for the common market against a growing number of Google's Android, and Research In Motion devices continues to grow on the Consumer Affairs with its line of BlackBerry, Microsoft makes a renewed smartphone play with Windows Phone 7.
